Ornamental salvias

6 prodotti

Ornamental sage is a hardy plant native to Southern Europe, characterized by rustic and delicate flowers. Being highly resistant to extreme climates (both cold and hot), it is suitable for all types of soil.

Depending on the variety, the color of the flowers can be purple, white, red, pink, light blue, blue, and even bicolored. Ideal for decorating indoor spaces or adding a touch of color to gardens and terraces.

How to grow ornamental sage?

Most ornamental sage species need to be planted in soil rich in organic matter, loose, and very well-drained. Generally, this type of plant does not grow well in excessively acidic or very clayey soils.

Once purchased, when digging the planting hole, if the soil is too compact, improve it by adding drainage material at the bottom. Then replace 2/3 of the excavated soil with sand and fertile potting soil (in equal parts).

To encourage flowering, we recommend choosing a sunny location (or even a partially shaded one). It forms compact bushes with dense foliage and abundant flowers throughout the warm season.

How to care for ornamental sage?

Ornamental sage does not require excessive care. It can be pruned without any problems, even during summer, if necessary to control the plant's width.

As autumn approaches, followed by the winter season, the above-ground parts of the plant will tend to dry out, so it should be cut back to approximately 10-15 cm above the ground. The following spring, new shoots will emerge from the soil, and the bush will become increasingly dense and full of flowers.
