Where to plant Gaura?
Gaura loves full sun and grows best in bright, well-exposed locations. It tolerates heat and dry periods well, and is perfect for enhancing mixed flowerbeds, delicate borders, or natural corners with spontaneous charm.
It pairs beautifully with plants like lavender, sage, echinacea, and ornamental grasses, with which it shares the same growing requirements.
The ideal soil is light, well-drained, and moderately fertile. It is important to avoid waterlogging, so it is advisable to work the soil well and, if necessary, lighten it with sand or draining materials.
Gaura also performs very well in pots, provided the container is large, deep, and has drainage holes. It is an excellent choice for sunny patios and balconies, where it will bring lightness and color throughout the summer.
When does Gaura bloom?
One of Gaura's strengths is its very long flowering season. It begins to bloom between late spring and early summer and continues until the first autumn frosts. Throughout the season, it continuously produces new flowering stems, creating a natural and airy effect.
Easy to manage, it only requires some light pruning to maintain its tidy shape and stimulate new blooms during the growing season. In late winter, however, it is advisable to prune the plants very short, as the aerial part dries out and in spring the bushes will produce new growth directly from the base.
